Google Maps

Maps, routes and local places

Google Maps helps you find places and plan how to get there. It suits people navigating an unfamiliar city, checking a route before leaving or looking up nearby businesses. You can get directions for driving, walking, cycling and public transit, with traffic information and route changes where available.

Check the destination before you go

Search for businesses and points of interest, then view details such as ratings, opening information and other visitor-provided information. Street View offers ground-level imagery for many locations, which can help you recognize a street or entrance. Map layers and search filters can narrow down what appears on the map.

Useful when the connection is limited

You can download map areas in advance and use them offline, though some functions depend on an internet connection. For walking, camera-based directions can place guidance over the view of the street on supported devices and in supported locations. Navigation uses location services, so frequent use may affect battery life.

At a glance

Google Maps covers more than turn-by-turn directions: it combines route planning with place search and map imagery in one app. Its rating is 3.17 out of 5 from 19,302,412 ratings, a large number of reviews with a mixed average. That figure is one signal to consider alongside whether its map and navigation tools fit your needs.
